CHARACTER
Character Name: Vicarian
Age: approximately 11, Dragon Years
Species: Dragon
Canon: World of Warcraft
Canon Point: Approximately, The Legion's invasion/start of xpac
Character Info: Vicarian is just one of countless whelps hatched in the Blade's Edge Mountains, in the shattered world of Outland. Some time prior to his hatching, the corrupted Aspect Deathwing brought his egg and that of his siblings to Outland for 'safekeeping', and there under the eye of Sabellian and his offspring, should have had a relatively cushy young life for a dragon.

Didn't work out. With the slaughter of most of the adult dragons at the hands of the towering monstrous Gronn, suddenly the whelps only had the mortals of the Wyrmcult to rely on to protect and feed them, and less than six months after his hatching Adventurers had wiped out most of those along WITH the Gronn. Blade's Edge is not a kindly environment to the small and young, with even the rocks and plant life being dangerous and hostile, and Vicarian spent the next decade or so in a mad scramble to not get eaten, captured, killed as a trophy or any other of the countless horrors that can befall a whelp in such an environment. While the remnants of the Wyrmcult could at least build traps and weapons and tools, the body plan of a dragon meant he had to rely on other things to do that for him - much to his disgust.

Only the arrival of the Legion on Azeroth (another world, his kind's origin planet linked through a magic portal) really changed much. Suddenly the few lingering adventurers vanished, and with them ANYTHING like protection in the form of culling the constant savage wildlife vanished. His kin's wistful tales of how easy things were in comparison on Azeroth even with the demons led to the decision to ... get the hell off the death world and go visit the cushy one.

A bargain made to make his life even a little bit easier is surely the reasonable thing to do at this point, instead of going and fighting the hordes of invading demons!

Personality: carian is a creature mostly motivated by a great number of vices, prominent among them being greed. If it exists, if it seems to have value, he wants it because he's a black dragon and nothing should stand in his way. Unfortunately this also sits alongside a streak of cowardice a mile wide, so gaining the things he wants is often done with cajoling, bargaining, alliances and dubious friendships instead of forceful conquering. He's painfully aware he's small and very fragile (well.. for a dragon), and while his species gives him the right to power and authority, he ... needs to live long enough to grow into those claws and seize it. After all, he intends to rule the world. Not just any world, Outland. He feels it's a birthright and while he has no real interest at all in any OTHER worlds, he has great interest in their magics and technologies and resources - things he can bring home to put to work in Outland trying to preserve it. The world he knows is slowly fraying at the seams, and if he can find a way to nail it together so it doesn't just float away into the Nether, then that's fantastic.

So for now, alliances and friendships are required, and he takes these very seriously. A powerful dragon can afford to backstab and kill their allies, he cannot, so he maintains these bonds with meticulous care, even able to enjoy it and reciprocate genuine friendship no matter the motivation behind it - it's just that he'll never put himself physically at risk for anyone at all, no matter how close he is to them. He's too afraid of being utterly squished. But he'll try to reciprocate in other ways, and when he becomes big and strong he'll make sure his friends and allies (if they're still alive) get nice cushy spots in his new empire. Though while he won't put himself at risk for people, he absolutely will for his own belongings and whatever small hoard he can accumulate. Possessions are NOT to be touched by others, and stolen even worse, and these he will defend with all the aggressive hostility of a dyed in the black resource guarder, up to and including attacking friends. Friends at least will be given a warning to drop his thing and back off immediately - or else! He may be small and generally cowardly but he's still a dragon, and avarice runs deep in his veins. Understanding that loyalty sometimes means actually paying people for their work and rewarding things done for his favor does mean he will part with those treasures on his own, however reluctantly, but it is different when it's his choice instead of being stolen from.

Being very young and from a prideful breed to begin with, he's also terribly arrogant. In spite of spending most fights hiding and cowering he considers himself the superior of most any mortal race he meets, and being so arrogant, he's also susceptible to flattery. Even if it's complete bullshit. Because of course he's glorious and powerful and strong, and it's so nice to have that recognized! That people might simply be mocking him or buttering him up is unthinkable, and in the rare occasions he might actually realize someone's NOT genuinely flattering him, he'll likely sulk for days. He can have the boldness of a coward convinced no harm is possible as well, and in situations where he's certain he's safe, he can be quite audacious - which again evaporates as soon as danger is obvious.

While he has no interest in the freedoms and rights of others that don't directly affect his life, and couldn't care less about the lives of innocents, Vicarian recognizes and favors the order and stability laws and strong rulers provide, and if he can't rule yet, well he'll tuck himself into some other hierarchy and serve there for the protections it offers him. He has a strong honor code as well, learned from his nth-removed uncle Sabellian; good and faithful allies are to be rewarded well, and disloyalty is to be punished. Reward helpfulness and beings will be more likely to help in the future! It worked for Sabellian, he intends to make it work for himself. While predominantly loyal to himself and his own goals, he loathes the very concept of backstabbing, and generally will continue to support whatever social structure is already in place even if a better offer comes along - up until the head is cut off the hierarchy he's dedicated himself to, whereupon it's fine to wander off to whatever benefits him more.

It should be noted somewhere that Vicarian is well aware of what his kind are, and what they do, and what's expected of him, namely: doing evil. And while at his heart he is inherently evil, he does lean very strongly towards organization and tradition and cooperation to achieve those goals, not random maniacal chaos. But he knows that's sort of what's EXPECTED of him, and that's his kind's tradition, thus he does try his best to live up to those expectations. So he dives after his goals with as much enthusiasm as he can manage, indulges in mad laughter when he can (and actively practices so it sounds properly menacing), actively searches for worthy people to grow his number of 'minions', and is fully intent on having a dark and foreboding fortress of some sort as soon as he possibly can. All he knows of 'true evil' beyond his own nature are stories and tales and legends of the incredible lengths villains have gone to in the past, and he works determinedly to emulate them.

After all, it's expected.

Abilities: Vicarian is a black dragonet, which comes with some perks. He has reasonably tough scales, he can fly, he can breathe molten magma and fire, and is utterly immune to mundane sources of heat such as lava or wildfires and so on. (This does not apply to magical sourced heat, but does apply to the likes of lasers.) He has excellent darkvision and a hound-like sense of smell, and maintains a body temperature just shy of 'hot' even in the coldest weather.

As a dragon, he is also inherently magical and has access to a very small set of spells and spell-like abilities. First and foremost is shapeshifting, nearly a Polymorph Self spell. He can theoretically[1] take the form of nearly anything he chooses, from flies to humanoids to things ... less than humanoid. This ability is near flawless; he becomes whatever he's shapeshifted into, and is undetectable by even the majority of supernatural senses as being anything other than what he's changed into; he simply won't register as 'dragon' to anything short of another dragon. If he is killed he will remain in this shapeshifted form after death. As he is not even remotely adept with it, there are however visual signs something's not quite right; he tends to maintain his dragon coloration in one form or another, and often can't quite shift away his claws and sharp teeth. Likewise, while adult dragons can maintain this ability indefinitely, his upper limits are perhaps only four or five hours before he has to return to his natural form. As he grows and practices, this will lengthen. He cannot be polymorphed or spell-transformed into some other creature unless he is doing the shapeshifting, external effects simply fail. Carnival gradual changes do not count!

The handful of spells he knows are brief and limited: Slow Fall, which ..does as advertised, for approximately one minute. Polymorph Critter, which allows him to turn small harmless things like turtles and rabbits into other small harmless things such as squirrels for about a day, and Sense Treasure, which gives him a mental radar for things he would find valuable (in a monetary sense, no using it to find 'knowledge' or whatever), generally gold and gems.

[1] Vicarian is young and UTTERLY ill-practiced with this ability. While with time and effort he could pull off the wide range of shapeshifts other dragons do, for now he is pretty much limited to brief poor-quality stints. Likewise he does NOT gain the species perks of whatever he becomes, he maintains his own natural requirements and skills. He will stay all but fireproof and still need things like air and food even if he takes the form of a being that doesn't share these ills.

CARNIVAL
Soul Colour: Deep orange-red
Ideal Jobs: Repairman, Cashier, Roustabout
Relevant Experience: ZILCH. He has absolutely no experience whatsoever that could possibly help in any of these jobs, as running away is not really useful for a carnival. The only thing he has going for him is a dragon's instinctive familiarity with treasure, wealth and the hoarding thereof, and if put in positions that have Numbers and Values, would do very well. But now that he has THUMBS and HANDS he'll be happy to put them to work in any way he can simply for the novelty of it. And once the novelty wears off, too bad for him.
Reason for Joining: He is very keen in a contract to serve - power or favors for service just makes sense to him, and to gain one of the elusive things that made survival more difficult in return for just some time is even better! He will ask for hands. Opposable thumbs that all dragons of Azerothian descent lack, so he can actually GRAB things the way they do and maybe begin making tools and traps of his own. Preferably modified forepaws, but he'll take anything he can get.
